He said that the demand of water was rising with the increasing population of Karachi. "In view of rise in demand, Sindh Government is likely to come up with a 50 year plan," he said. The board's MD briefed Waqar Mehdi on various issues. "The new schedule is aimed at ensuring equal supply of potable water to all parts of metropolis besides enhancing efficiency of the distribution network," he said, adding that a media campaign would also be run for awareness of the people, in this regard.
Asadullah Khan said KWSB had also begun supplying around 70 million galleons water per day (MGD) to the city from Hub Dam - the main potable water supply source to Karachi. This development, he said, will help resolve the water woes of different city neighborhoods, particularly Districts West and East. He said sewerage network was also being developed by replacing damaged lines with new ones. The 24/7 complaint centre is also effective with the officials entertaining complaints of the citizens.
The KWSB MD said that a few days back, the board initiated an anti-encroachment drive, serving show-cause notices to 400 individuals asking them to remove illegal structures from the board's land, sewerage lines, around its water installations, reservoirs, siphons etc, with immediate effect.
